How we teach Russian

It's time to learn the Russian language in Russia!
Curriculum is based upon training for TORFL
Our curriculum is designed to help students increase their proficiency of the Russian language based on standards from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the State Exam – Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL).

Students will reach proficiency in all aspects of language:
- Vocabulary and Grammar
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening Comprehension
- Speaking

Student's Placement
Russian language lessons begin after the student's level has been determined through placement testing. The placement test consists of a writing sample and oral interview which will allow us to check how well each student is able to read, write and speak in Russian. After the testing, each student will be reviewed by GRINT staff and will be placed into the most appropriate course. If a student feels that they have been placed incorrectly, the placement decision will be reviewed by Centre GRINT.

Special tests are arranged for "heritage speakers" to define their level and develop a program focusing on their needs.

Evaluation and Exams
At the end of each session, students are evaluated on the basis of in-class participation, tests, attendance and final exam – official TRKI test.

GRINT is an official testing center for the administration of the Russian Federation TRKI tests (Russian language proficiency tests for foreigners). All GRINT instructors are certified trainers and administrators of the TRKI tests and they are able to provide the unique training to the students need to pass these tests and receive official recognition from the Russian Ministry of Education.

TRKI exams are administered by GRINT at the end of each semester at no extra cost to the student.

The students continue to achieve higher and higher placement on these tests. For example, during the last five years from 80-100% of our students have attained their particular proficiency goal. It is now not uncommon for our students to achieve not only Level I but also Level II and even Level III. These results confirm that the Centre has developed one of the best programs to learn Russian.
